Several schools have been placed into lockdown as police responded to reports a boy was armed with a weapon.

The alarm was raised about 2.25pm on Monday, with police swarming Abernathy Rd in Byford, a suburb of Perth ’s south east.

The street is home to Byford Secondary College and Salvado Catholic College.

Police responded to reports a boy was carrying an edged weapon near a school.

“Several schools in the area subsequently enacted lockdown procedures, and police attended the scene,” WA Police said.

Police said one male had been apprehended and is assisting with inquiries.

No injuries were reported and no edged weapon has been found.

The WA Education Department was sought for comment.
