Darwin teacher Bindi Isis is challenging a preliminary decision by the Northern Territory's Teacher Registration Board to suspend her registration, pending further investigation.
In documents filed with NTCAT, the board says the decision to suspend Ms Isis's registration followed a complaint from a principal and was made pending an inquiry into the allegations.
The dispute was due to return to the NT Civil and Adminstrative Tribunal for a closed compulsory conference today.
A Darwin teacher has challenged an interim decision by the Northern Territory's Teacher Registration Board (TRB) to suspend her registration while conducting an inquiry into allegations relating to "child welfare, psychological safety, professional judgement and fitness to teach".
According to documents filed with the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the TRB suspended Bindi Isis's registration in May following a complaint by a school principal.
The teacher of 25 years' experience alleges the board failed to properly assess the reliability and context of the allegations.
Ms Isis noted her final day of teaching students at the school was October 13, 2025.
"They include a pattern of conduct spanning several years and involved concerns raised by multiple sources, including school leadership, staff, parents and external consultants."
"The board was entitled to consider the cumulative effect of those matters when assessing risk."
"Before suspension she had recommenced supporting her family with the income derived from teaching, getting work as a relief teacher."
In its response, the TRB argues the decision to suspend Ms Isis's registration was "reasonable, proportionate and consistent with the protective purpose" of the legislation.
