Thousands of people have reported issues accessing social media platforms run by Meta.

The outage started about 10.45am on Monday, according to Downdetector which reported an influx of complaints regarding both Facebook and Instagram.

More than 1300 people had reported Facebook as down by 11am, with hundreds more reportedly not gaining access to Instagram in the same time frame.

Meta’s other social media platform, Threads, is also experiencing issues.

The fault appears to be impacting users across the world, with people in the US, Canada, Australia, the Philipines and the Ivory Coast all reporting outages.

However, users are still able to access the platforms through their mobile apps.

Access was restored to desktop users just under an hour after the first reports were made.
