The mystery continues after a woman’s body was discovered inside a bin outside a Brisbane apartment complex as police investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

The body was discovered by a garbage collector on Lambert Street in Kangaroo Point shortly before midday on Friday.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 11.50am, when the woman was declared dead.

Officers have not confirmed the woman’s identity or cause of death at this time.

Waste company Veolia has confirmed workers stopped the collection after discovering the body while checking the bin’s contents.

A spokesperson said the company was providing support to the workers involved and would continue to do so for as long as necessary.

“As is standard procedure, our team checked the bin’s contents before tipping and immediately stopped the work,” the Veolia spokesperson said.

“This ongoing investigation is a matter for the police.

“Our main priority is the welfare of our team members. We are providing support and will continue to do so for as long as necessary.”

Brisbane City Council has also confirmed it is assisting police with the investigation.

“We are helping police in any way possible,” a spokesperson for the council said.
