Shark s have been spotted circling near a washed up whale carcass which has forced the closure of a popular beach.
A crowd has gathered on the sand at City Beach in Perth where a shark advice was issued on Monday when a whale carcass was reported about 7.30am.
“It is possible the carcass will continue to act as an attractant that could lead to sharks coming in close to shore along this stretch of coast,” the warning read.

“Although sharks may be present along the Western Australian coast throughout the year, people should exercise additional caution.”
Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development officers and other agencies are monitoring the situation.
Vision from the 7NEWS helicopter showed two sharks circling near the carcass.
Great whites measuring five metres and four metres were spotted just 10 metres from the sand, according to SharkSmart.
The shark sightings come 10 days after Greg O’Neill, 63, was mauled by a shark at Sorrento Beach, about 10km north of City Beach.
The father and grandfather-to-be had been swimming about 15m from the shore when he was taken by a great white.
A shark kill order was in place before being discontinued within hours of drum line being put into the water.
O’Neill’s death came just days after a 56-year-old surfer was mauled by a shark at Glenfield Beach in Geraldton, 420km north of Perth.
