How to reach a person
Write to support@mundaneread.com or legal@mundaneread.com. If you are a publisher and you want your publication removed from Mundane Read, say so and we will remove it the same day. We would rather lose a feed than argue with the newsroom that filed the story.
What it identifies itself as
MundaneReadBot/1.0 (+https://mundaneread.com/bot), and for the image search,
MundaneReadBot/1.0 (+https://mundaneread.com/bot; images@mundaneread.com). We do not
disguise the crawler as a browser, and we do not crawl from residential addresses: requests come
from Cloudflare's network.
What it fetches, and how often
- Your public RSS or Atom feed, no more often than every 20 to 90 minutes depending on the feed.
- For some feeds, the article page itself. At most eight article pages across all publications in each 15-minute run, so the whole service fetches fewer than a thousand pages a day.
- Nothing else. It does not crawl your site, follow links out of an article, sign in, use an
account, or fetch anything behind a paywall — publications that mark their articles
isAccessibleForFree: falseare read from the feed summary only and their pages are never requested.
What we do with it
We measure how the article is written — its adjectives, its loaded verbs, its sentiment — and publish a version with that language removed, with your masthead named and a link to your original at the top. See Method for what each measure is, and Terms.
Blocking it
Tell us and we will stop; that is the fastest and the most reliable route, and it is the one we would prefer you took. A network-level block on the user agent above also works and we will not route around it.
