Lucky lightning has struck twice for Albany twin brothers who have bagged a $1 million Millionaire Medley lottery prize, a little more than a year after celebrating their winning Set for Life ticket.
The 65-year-old pair’s first lotto win in February 2025 scored them $20,000 per month for 20 years plus a cash lump sum of $200,000 — but the duo have now trumped that with their latest six-figure jackpot.
Both division one Lotterywest tickets were sold by Clark’s Newsagency in York Street.
One of the brothers said they had a cancelled appointment to thank for the Millionaire Medley jackpot.
“When my dentist appointment was cancelled, I decided to go and get a lotto ticket,” he said.
“When I got home, I realised to bought a Slikpik and forgotten to get my usual numbers as well.
“I wouldn’t usually ever buy more than one ticket a day, but I thought to pop back because I like playing the same numbers.
“I know it’s completely random, but it’s what I like to do.”
It was this second trip to the retailer that would secure the twin brothers the $1 million jackpot.
The pair say the latest windfall will help them enjoy a retirement they’ve worked hard for.
“We’ve worked physically demanding jobs our whole lives but now we can relax a bit more, pay the house off and then we both want to get caravans so we can travel around Australia together.”
While one of the twins is dreaming of life on the road, the other has already celebrated in his own way.
“I bought myself a watch because you have to treat yourself a bit,” he said.
“I also like disco and dancing, so I might celebrate with my girlfriend.”
The first win had already been life-changing, and the twins said they were in disbelief when they learnt they may have won the lottery twice in two years.
“I don’t usually play Set for Life but for some reason I bought the ticket,” said one of the winners at the time.
“I checked the numbers online after the draw and couldn’t believe I had them all.
“I started running around the house, I even bumped into a glass door with all the excitement.
“I eventually had to sit down and take a breath, that’s when I called my twin brother to share the good news.”
The chances of winning a lotto prize twice are thought to be 24 trillion to one.
Clark’s Newsagency owner Mark Plaisted said the shop usually sold about one winning ticket a year.
“The person who buys the ticket is obviously happy, but the next customer is unhappy because you didn’t sell it to them,” he said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Nikki Wilson-Smith said it was rare to welcome the same players back to the winners’ room for a second prize.
“Winning a major prize is a memorable moment for any player, but to experience two significant wins within such a short period is remarkable,” she said.
