A 11-year-old boy has died after allegedly being shot in the face at a Norwest unit in Sydney's north-west.
Police were called to the scene at about 5 pm on Monday and found the boy had sustained a gunshot wound to his face and neck.
The boy was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in a critical condition.
NSW Police said he died around 8 pm on Thursday.
Five other people were in the unit on Monday but were not injured.
Three 18-year-olds were arrested by police but two were later released pending further inquiries.
The third, Isaac Bechara, has been charged with concealing a serious indictable offence and remains before the courts. He was formally refused bail at a hearing on Tuesday, and the matter has been adjourned until next month.
A 43-year-old woman was also present while the fifth person has not been located.
Although police initially reassured the community that they did not believe the incident was related to organise crime, they later said they were investigating whether the men present had criminal links.
When asked about their underworld links on Tuesday, Superintendent Naomi Moore said police had "engaged" with the young boy's family before.
"A number of individuals that were inside the unit at the time are well known to NSW Police and their association with organised crime is being considered by investigators."
She also said some of those present at the home were "not co-operating with investigators", and revealed police had not yet recovered the firearm.
A resident at the unit block said police could be seen searching a nearby park and creek after the shooting.
Premier Chris Minns on Tuesday described the incident as an "incredibly distressing situation".
