Mundane Read on your phone
Add it to your home screen and it works like an app: it opens full screen from its own icon, keeps the articles you have read for when you have no signal, and can send you alerts if you turn them on. There is nothing to download from an app store, and nothing to pay.
You are using the app already. Nothing more to do.
iPhone and iPad Your phone
- Open mundaneread.com in Safari.
- Tap Share, the square with an arrow pointing up. It is at the bottom of the screen on an iPhone and at the top on an iPad; in the newest Safari it is inside the ••• menu.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. If you do not see it, tap View More or Edit Actions first.
- If there is an Open as Web App switch, leave it on. Tap Add.
Mundane Read is now on your Home Screen as the amber chair. Open it from there. For alerts, open Alerts in the app and turn them on: an iPhone only sends alerts to a site added this way.
Chrome, Edge and Firefox on an iPhone can do it too: find Share, in the address bar or the menu, then Add to Home Screen.
Android Your phone
- Open mundaneread.com in Chrome.
- Tap the menu at the top right.
- Tap Add to Home screen. On some phones it is called Install app.
- Tap Install.
Mundane Read is now with your other apps, as the amber chair. Alerts work straight away: turn them on at Alerts.
Samsung Internet: tap the menu (three lines, at the bottom), then Add page to, then Home screen.
On a computer
In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or look in the browser's menu for Install Mundane Read (in Chrome it is under Cast, save and share). It opens in its own window, without the browser around it. To see how the news is written on other sites as you read them, there is also the browser extension.
Good to know
- It is the same Mundane Read, with the same account. If it asks you to sign in, do it once inside the app: an iPhone can keep the app's sign-in apart from Safari's.
- It updates itself. There is never anything to download again.
- To remove it, press and hold the icon and remove it, as you would any app. On an iPhone that also turns its alerts off.
